Adventure Squad (Carrboro)- Summer 2022
DEVELOPING SOCIAL & PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS THROUGH NATURE, SCIENCE, ART & CULINARY GROUP PROJECTS
For children 7 thru 9 years old
This is a project-based group, with a focus on projects benefiting others or the community. Children will have the opportunity to work on skills related to executive functioning, self-regulation, social interaction, planning, and self-concept. Example projects may include: sharing kind words with others through encouraging cards, assembling buddy bags for unsheltered neighbors, making toys for animals at the shelter, tying blankets for children in the hospital, etc. Children build skills as well as a feeling of competence and confidence knowing they can help others (even if they need help sometimes, too!).
Goals:
- Applying concepts of Social Thinking curricula (e.g. Following The Group Plan, Keeping Your Body in the Group)
- Problem solving within a group context
- Executive functioning skills related to planning, praxis, sequencing and organization
- Tolerating challenges during project-based activities
- Cooperative play, teamwork and peer negotiation
Location: Carrboro
When: Tuesdays, June 14th – August 16th
Time: 4:00pm – 5:00pm

Children are expected to attend every session (barring illness), as the sessions build on each other and group dynamics are an important component. These services are billed as Occupational and/or Speech Therapy services and many parents receive partial reimbursement from their insurance companies.
If your child is not attending therapy sessions at Emerge, we will be in touch with you to set up a brief free screening to determine if this program is a good match for your child.
