Rachel was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology and a minor in Cognitive Science. Afterward, she earned her doctorate in occupational therapy from Wingate University. Rachel has been a member of the Emerge Team in various roles including a group therapy volunteer, therapy aide, and administrative assistant before becoming an occupational therapist. She also completed her doctoral capstone semester at Emerge alongside Executive Director and Owner, Brittni Winslow. During her doctoral studies she and her colleagues completed a qualitative research study titled “The Lived Experiences of Mothers of Premature Infants” allowing her to gain an in-depth and realistic understanding of the impact of premature birth on the mothers’ mental and physical well-being. Rachel realizes treatment goes beyond the clinical setting and greatly values the importance of supporting her families and their home environments. Outside of Emerge, Rachel enjoys finding fun outdoor adventures with her boyfriend and her dog, Franklin, making new recipes in the kitchen, working out at the gym, reading books while drinking coffee, and spending quality time with friends and family.
