BUILD CONFIDENCE IN READING AND SUPPORT ACADEMIC SUCCESS
For Kindergarten – 2nd Grade reading levels
This club is intended to follow the Orton-Gillingham methodology of reading instruction, using sequential, multisensory, and structured approaches that repeat across group meetings to improve mastery of reading concepts. This is a level one group intended to go over Kindergarten level concepts, but sound/letter and spelling concepts taught will be selected based on the needs of the group as a whole. This group will be led by one Orton-Gillingham trained speech-language therapist.
Level 1 Goals Include:
- Learning to write dictated words and sentences
- Using finger-tapping and other multisensory strategies to blend and segment words
- Reading and spelling using digraphs (like ch, sh, th, wh, and qu) and open syllables. (may be adjusted based on group needs)
- Recognizing vowels correctly in CVC words
Level 3 Goals Include:
- Learning to write dictated words and sentences
- Using finger-tapping and other multisensory strategies to blend and segment words
- Reading and spelling using vowel teams and spelling rules (such as the magic e). (may be adjusted based on group needs)
Goals will be adjusted based on the needs of the group.
Location: Durham
Dates: June 13th – August 24th (OFF week of July 4th)
2 Levels Based on Current Reading Levels:
- Level 1 (Kindergarten): Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00pm OR Thursdays, 4:00-5:00pm
- Level 2 (2nd Grade): Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00pm
Total Cost: $1000 ($100 per week)
This club may be billed through insurance.

Children are expected to attend every session (barring illness), as the sessions build on each other and group dynamics are an important component.
