Reading and Succeeding – Summer 2022
BUILD CONFIDENCE IN READING AND SUPPORT ACADEMIC SUCCESS
For Kindergarten and 1st Grade reading levels
This group is intended to follow the Orton-Gillingham methodology of reading instruction, using sequential, multisensory, and structured approaches that repeat across group meetings to improve mastery of reading concepts. There are three levels based on current reading level, but sound/letter and spelling concepts taught will be selected based on the needs of the group as a whole. This group will be led by two Speech Therapists, with one trained in Orton-Gillingham.
Goals Include:
- Learning to write dictated words and sentences
- Using finger-tapping and other multisensory strategies to blend and segment words
- Reading and spelling using digraphs like ch, sh, th, wh, and qu (may be adjusted based on group needs)
- Recognizing vowels correctly in CVC words
Goals will be adjusted based on the needs of the group.

Children are expected to attend every session (barring illness), as the sessions build on each other and group dynamics are an important component. These services are billed as Occupational and/or Speech Therapy services and many parents receive partial reimbursement from their insurance companies.
If your child is not attending therapy sessions at Emerge, we will be in touch with you to set up a brief free screening to determine if this program is a good match for your child.
