Readers, Writers, Meaning Makers: Level One – Summer 2020

BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN READING THROUGH THE ORTON-GILLINGHAM METHOD

For ages 6-8

This group is intended to follow the Orton-Gillingham methodology of reading instruction, using sequential, multisensory, and structured approaches that repeat across group meetings to improve mastery of reading concepts. This is a level one group intended to go over first grade level concepts, but sound/letter and spelling concepts taught will be selected based on the needs of the group as a whole. This group will be led by one Orton-Gillingham trained speech-language therapist.

Goals include:

  • Learning to write dictated words and sentences
  • Using fingertapping and other multisensory strategies to blend and segment words
  • Reading and spelling using digraphs like ch, sh, th, wh, and qu (may be adjusted based on group needs)
  • Recognizing vowels correctly in CVC words

When: Mondays, June 15th – August 3rd

Time: 9:00 – 10:00am

Total Cost:  $100 per session

Registration Information

To register, submit an electronic form.

Children are expected to attend every session (barring illness), as the sessions build on each other and group dynamics are an important component. These services are billed as Occupational and/or Speech Therapy services and many parents receive partial reimbursement from their insurance companies.

If your child is not attending therapy sessions at Emerge, we will be in touch with you to set up a brief free screening to determine if this program is a good match for your child.
