Team Builders Durham – Fall 2026

DEVELOPING SOCIAL & PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS THROUGH CREATIVE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES

for children 8 – 11 years old

This is a project-based program with a focus on team-building, cooperation, and shared problem solving. This program will support older children in building the skills necessary to participate in the following: group activities, teams, sports and dance, extracurriculars, and community classes. Participants will have the opportunity to work on skills related to executive functioning, self-regulation, social interaction, planning, and self-concept. Example projects may include: making a garden, cooking, creating a board game, etc. Working towards a shared interest and goal helps motivate children to form strong friendships as well as learn to navigate peer negotiation.

Goals:

  • Peer perspective taking
  • Problem solving within a group context
  • Executive functioning skills related to planning, praxis, sequencing and organization
  • Tolerating challenges during project-based activities
  • Cooperative play, teamwork and peer negotiation
